St. Michael’s Hospital in conjunction with the University of Toronto, Division of General Surgery and the University of Toronto Trauma Program is accepting applications from well-qualified applicants for the post of academic Trauma and Acute Care General Surgeon.
The effective date of this appointment is tentatively for the summer of 2017 at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher.
The successful candidate must be eligible for the equivalent of Royal College certification in General Surgery and qualify for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ontario. Preference will be to candidates with post Residency Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery / Acute Care General Surgery, with or without additional training in Critical Care. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate experience and training in the management of trauma and acute care General Surgery patients appropriate for an academic tertiary care level referral centre.
The candidate will be expected to possess exemplary clinical skills and demonstrated commitment to life-long learning. A commitment and leadership in the academic initiatives of the Trauma Service and the General Surgery Program will be expected. A commitment to excellence in surgical education at all levels will be expected. The candidate will be expected to have shown exceptional leadership, interpersonal and collaboration skills. The candidate will be required to possess a skill set and requisite training to further advance the clinical and academic productivity of both the regional Trauma and the Acute Care General Surgery services.
The candidate will be required to advance the academic mission of the Hospital and of the University through local, national and international innovations and scholarship in the spheres of clinical epidemiology, health services research, basic research, surgical education, surgical ethics, clinical trials, global health and the health of disadvantaged populations, quality improvement, patient safety or health policy.
A Master’s degree in a relevant area of study would be considered an asset. The candidate will be appointed at a rank of Assistant/ Associate or Full Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Income is expected in the range of $200,000-$500,000, estimate based on fee for service model and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
